DESCRIPTION The Soay sheep is a relatively small but durable sheep. They have mouflon like ears, a very short tail and short wide face. They have soft fine wool and vary in color from blond to brown wool coat. The sheep have a white belly, white rump patch and occasional white markings on their face, legs and or body. The rams' horns vary from tight to wide curls and are massive for the size of the sheep. The ewes' weight is between 45 - 50 lbs and the rams weight is between 70 - 80 lbs.
DISTRIBUTION This ancient sheep was believed to have come from the Island of Soay. Huntable populations are widely distributed through the UK. The Soay sheep have been introduced in Oregon, Belgium, Netherlands, and France.
