Tragelaphus spekei sylvestris
DESCRIPTION Smaller than the East African sitatunga, from which it must have evolved, with shorter horns and much shorter, stronger hoofs.
HABITAT Lake storms have forced the Sesse Islands sitatunga to largely abandon its aquatic habitat and live mainly on dry land where it has adopted habits similar to a bushbuck's. A restricted diet probably accounts for its smaller size and shorter horns; living on dry land for its short, strong hoofs.
DISTRIBUTION Only on the Sesse Islands in the northwestern part of Lake Victoria in Uganda-specifically Bugalla, Bubembe, Fumve and Nkosi islands.
