Gazella thomsoni albonotata
Named after the Mongalla region in Sudan.
DESCRIPTION Shoulder height 24-25 inches (61-63 cm). Weight 40-50 pounds (18-23 kg).
The Mongalla gazelle is similar to the Thomson gazelle, except it is smaller and has smaller horns that usually turn in a little at the tips. The general color is sandy reddish, with the dark flank band separated from the white underparts by a narrow, buff-colored shadow band. There is a white patch on the forehead at the base of the horns. The white eye ring continues upward above the eye as well as downward to the muzzle.
BEHAVIOR AND HABITAT As for Thomson gazelle.
DISTRIBUTION Southeastern Sudan east of the White Nile and mainly south of Bor, with the northern limit about 7°30´N. Also in extreme southwestern Ethiopia in the Mago and west bank Omo River regions.
