Bos gaurus hubbacki
Gauro Malayo (Sp), Malaiengaur (G), Gaur malais (F). Called seladang in Malaysia.
DESCRIPTION The arch on the top of the skull is less developed than in other gaurs. The gray area of the forehead extends farther down the face than in the Indian gaur. There is a whitish band above the muzzle. The eyes are often darker in color than in other races. There is no dewlap. Horn lengths to 28-1/2 inches (72.4 cm) are recorded by Rowland Ward from 1933 and earlier, as were circumferences to 21-1/2 inches (54.6 cm) and outside spreads to 46 inches (116.8 cm).
DISTRIBUTION The Malay Peninsula south of the Isthmus of Kra. For record-keeping, we use the northern boundary of Chumphon Province in Thailand as the boundary between the Malayan and Indochinese gaurs.
