Sylvicapra grimmia splendidula
DESCRIPTION More brightly colored than the southern bush duiker, with the upperparts a bright reddish gray and the underparts white. Duikers from the area between the Luando and Quanza rivers in north-central Angola are said to have light-colored eye rings.
DISTRIBUTION Angola, southwestern Congo (K), and the savanna areas of Gabon and Congo (B). On 1/3/2024, the Record Book Committee (RBC) decided to exclude Zambia entries from this category, reaffirming a 2016 RBC decision.
TAXONOMIC NOTES A collection of sub-species comprise each bush duiker category. For the Angolan bush duiker however, S. g. splendidula has priority with no other subspcies of the 11 recognized in Handbook of the Mammals of the World, Wilson, D.E. & Mittermeier, R.A. eds. (2011).
